Psychologists have divided parenting styles into 4 types: permissive, authoritative, neglectful, and authoritarian. And according to research, it’s the authoritative approach that is more likely to raise independent and socially competent kids. But no matter how we choose to raise them, it’s evident that we all want the best for our kids. After all, parenting is a personal journey, where each parent makes their own set of rules according to their beliefs and life circumstances.

Bright Side is fascinated by the different discipline approaches people have for their kids. We want to share the astonishing rules that 10 celebrities make their kids follow.

1. Julia Roberts — can’t watch her movies

Even though she is one of Hollywood’s most successful actresses, Julia Roberts has revealed that her 3 children don’t watch many films or TV shows, and most definitely not hers. She said, ’’We have a pretty rigid viewing feeling in our house.” The actress then added, ’’We’ll find our right time that will be happy and joyous for us to share that all together, but it probably isn’t in 2 weeks.”

2. Madonna — no dating until 18

The ’’Queen of Pop’’ once revealed that her eldest daughter was still too young to date, saying, ’’No boys for Lourdes until she’s 18 years old.’’ And it seems that this is not the only rule that she has for her kids. Madonna had admitted to being a disciplinarian in the household and added, ’’Late-night TV, junk food, and mess are not tolerated in my house.’’

3. Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher — no Christmas presents

The star couple, who are parents to a 7-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son, confessed that they don’t like to spoil them with gifts. The actress opened up, saying, “So far, our tradition is no presents for the kids… Last year when we celebrated Christmas, Wyatt was 2…and we didn’t give her anything — it was the grandparents.’’ She explained, ’’The kid no longer appreciates the one gift. They don’t even know what they’re expecting; they’re just expecting stuff.”

4. Kelly Ripa — no public Instagram account until 18

The American actress and TV host has one daughter and 2 sons with her husband. Their eldest has confessed that his parents were stricter with his upbringing compared to his younger siblings. However, there is one undebatable rule that the middle daughter has to follow, which is waiting until turning 18 to make her Instagram a public account.

5. Megan Fox — no TV and no phone

The American actress has admitted that her kids are allowed to watch movies, but the same thing doesn’t apply to TV. She explained, “With movies, I feel like there’s a beginning, a middle, and an end. There’s a clear story. I think that it’s different than just putting a kid in front of the television because it’s just nonstop.’’ She added that she is also against her kids having phones, saying, ’’My goal is no computers, no cell phones until at least eighth grade.”

6. Gwyneth Paltrow — TV only in French or Spanish

The actress, who is also a mother of 2, had a curious rule when it comes to watching TV. She admitted that her son and daughter are restricted from watching it in their native English language. 7. Alicia Silverstone — no diapers

The actress had revealed that she had started potty training her son at 6 months old. She explained, “Just like your baby tells you it needs to eat, or it’s tired, they tell you when they need to go to the bathroom.” She also added, “It’s the most natural, primal thing.” Alicia Silverstone then went on to admit that this approach is also good for our planet, saying, ’’You save tons of money on diapers, tons of time because it’s not as messy, and you’re also helping the earth!”

8. Keira Knightley — daughter can’t watch Cinderella

The English actress revealed that some Disney films are a big no-no for her daughter to watch because she doesn’t agree with the message they give to young girls. She explained that Cinderella ’’is about waiting around for a rich guy to rescue her — no, rescue yourself!” The Little Mermaid is another movie she doesn’t fully agree with, saying, ’’The songs are great, but do not give your voice up for a man. Hello?!”

9. Jennifer Lopez — iPads only on Sundays

The star, who is a mother to a twin boy and girl, has a strict rule when it comes to using iPads. She shared that her kids ’’don’t get to use their iPads during the week, or play video games or anything because it’s school time.’’ She explained that ’’Sunday Funday’’ is the only day of the week where they can use the devices on the condition that ’’they have to be good in school.’’

10. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt — kids can’t Google them

Brad Pitt, who was then still married to Angelina Jolie, had revealed, ’’On all the kids’ computers we had our names blocked.’’ He explained that their 3 daughters and 3 sons ’’can’t Google their mom and dad.’’ He added, ’’I don’t want to make myself dependent on what other people think.”

Do you agree with all the rules mentioned on this list? Do you have any specific rules that your kids should never break?
